Located in southeastern France's Rhône-Alpes region, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc was the host city for the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Chamonix remains a popular winters sports resort town, bringing visitors from far and wide to snowboard one of the tallest mountains in Western Europe. Travelers who do not want to tote their boards halfway across the world can rent them from a number of places in town.
Legend'Chx Bike & Board Shop
Located on the Rue Ravanel le Rouge in the center of Chamonix five minutes from the train station, Legend'Chx Bike & Board Shop (legendchx.com) offers two different snowboard rental packs. The Classic pack, geared towards beginners or intermediate riders, includes a basic board and bindings. The Pro Pack, aimed at more advanced snowboarders, expands the board choice to include both freestyle and freeride boards. Boots can be added onto both packs for a small fee. You can rent a snowboard for just the day, but you will receive a sliding discount by renting for longer periods.
Open every day of the year from 9 a.m. to noon and then again from 3:30 to 7 p.m., Zero G (zerogchx.com) provides you with a few different types of boards to rent. Zero G has board rentals for beginners and intermediate snowboarders and offers freestyle boards at a premium price. Zero G also offers boot and binding rentals along with specialty item rentals such as a helmet cam for when you want to capture your run down the mountain. Zero G is located on rue Ravanel le Rouge between the Belouga Burger and ChaChaCha Wine Shop.
Sanglard Sports (rentski.com) located across from Mont Blanc's parking lot, has considered itself Chamonix's ski rental specialist since it opened in 1924. Sanglard Sports offers snowboarders discounts for longer rental periods, and its snowboard rentals include both ski boots and bindings. Snowboarders have a choice between different styles and colors of boards and can pick boards specifically suited to their size and weight. Sanglard Sports offers online ordering for a deposit of 10 percent of the total cost, so snowboarders can just pop into the store and pick up their gear without having to wait. Sanglard Sports also offers free local delivery and special discounts for families.
Sportmarche Technique Extrême
At 9, 000 square meters, Sportmarche Technique Extrême (technique-extreme.com) is the Chamonix valley's biggest sporting goods store. The store offers all boards and accessories for every different level of snowboarder, from beginner to competition level. Snowboarders can rent snowboarding packs that include boards, bindings and boots online for a discounted price and then pick them up at the store. The store also offers other rental products suited for the mountains such as snowshoes and two-way radios. Sportmarche Technique Extrême is located on Avenue de l'Aiguille du Midi between Promenade Marie Paradis and Rue de Lyret.
